The only energy employed in the “Talk Circuit” of our sound-powered communication systems is the sound energy of the voice speaking into the handset transmitter at one station. As the voice travels through the transmitter, it causes fluctuations in the magnetic circuit, generating an alternating current. This current then travels to the receiver at the other station, where the speaker’s voice is faithfully recreated. This process ensures that speech is transmitted clearly and distinctly, with all static noises typically associated with battery-powered telephones eliminated. In ideal conditions, and when 20 AWG wire is used, transmission over distances of up to thirty miles is possible.
